Employment Opportunities

This is part-time position plays a vital role in ensuring that the library’s collections are well organized and accessible to patrons. Primary responsibilities include shelving books, maintaining accurate shelf order, shifting materials, and performing other organizational tasks to support the smooth operation of the library.  The position works under the direct supervision of the Director, Assistant Director, or Librarian.

Essential Functions:
  • Shelving Books and Materials: Accurately place books, magazines, and other materials on shelves in accordance with the library’s classification system.
  • Shelf Reading: Regularly review and ensure that all materials are in their correct locations and arranged in proper order.
  • Shifting: Adjust and rearrange materials on shelves as needed to accommodate new arrivals and ensure optimal use of space.
  • Organizational Tasks: Assist with other duties related to the organization and maintenance of library materials, such as removing damaged items, assisting with the weeding process, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Work experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous experience in a library or similar setting is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, customer-focused attitude.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and stretching to shelve and retrieve items from various heights.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity to handle various library materials and equipment.
  • Usual office-type working conditions.
Schedule: 

This is a part-time, non-union position with flexible hours of late afternoon or evening. There will be two, three-hour shifts per week as follows:

  • One shift on Mondays
  • One shift on either Wednesdays or Thursdays (but not both)

This position follows the Town of Bristol Employee Handbook.
