The Rogers Free Library is a vibrant hub of learning and community engagement nestled in the scenic coastal town of Bristol, RI. Rogers Free Library spans 28,000 square feet and has recently received a $1.75 million federal grant to update facilities and programming. Open Positions:

Rogers Free Library seeks to fill one part-time position at the Circulation desk. This position works under the direct supervision of the Collections and Circulation Librarian and will primarily serve patrons in the library and will assist the IT Coordinator with technology projects.

The position is needed to fill 12 hours per week.*
The starting pay rate is $17.83 per hour.
The hours required are:
  • Tuesdays from 1 pm – 5 pm
  • Wednesdays from 1 pm – 5 pm
  • Thursdays from 1 pm – 5 pm

* Some additional hours may be available for fill-in coverage at any of the service desks when other staff are absent.

Tasks of Position:
  • Complete circulation duties in the ILS system including checking materials in/out, registering patrons for cards, locating materials online and in the library; maintain patron privacy.
  • Assist patrons with using and accessing library services and resources.
  • Assist the technology coordinator in responding to calls for help with troubleshooting and solving hardware and software problems. Training will be provided.
  • Promote library resources and programs.
  • Maintain the accuracy of items on the reserve and collection shelves.
  • Serve at the circulation or reference desks during shifts.
  • Set up book carts for Library Pages to shelve materials efficiently.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required with advanced study (Associate’s degree or higher) desirable.
  • Demonstrated “people” skills, both in person and over the phone, secured through retail, library, customer, or other public service experience. Previous library experience is desirable.
  • Good work ethic including punctuality in reporting for work, organizational skills, thoroughness in work completion, attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new and emerging technologies
  • Ability to understand and utilize IT best practices
  • Ability to work well with the public and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and willingness to learn new applications.
  • Usual office working conditions. Potential minimal exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather, temperature fluctuations.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and talk for potentially long periods of time. This includes using a computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse to complete many of the assigned tasks as well as usual office equipment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Rogers Free Library seeks to fill a part-time position in the Children’s Room. This position works under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Librarian.

The position is needed to fill 11 hours per week.*
The starting pay rate is $17.83 per hour.
The hours required are:
  • Tuesdays from 5 pm – 8 pm
  • Thursdays from 9 am – 1 pm
  • Fridays from 9 am – 1 pm

* Some additional hours may be available for fill-in coverage at any of the service desks when other staff are absent.

Tasks of Position:
  • Completes circulation duties in the ILS system including checking materials in/out, registering juvenile patrons for cards, locating materials online and in the library, enforces patron privacy.
  • Assists patrons with using and accessing library services and resources.
  • Promotes library resources and programs
  • Maintains the accuracy of items on the reserve and collection shelves
  • Serves at the Children’s Room desk during various shifts: mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends; flexible and set schedules available.
  • Set up book cart and shelve materials efficiently
  • Assists patrons with basic computer tasks (printing, accessing email, etc.).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
