TYPE OF WORK
This is a professional, full-time position supervising the services, collections, and staff of the Children’s Services Department at the Rogers Free Library. This position reports to the Assistant Director.
This position requires understanding of and experience in the ALSC (Association for Library Service to Children) competencies: literacy, learning, and childhood development; equity, diversity, and inclusion; community programming; collection knowledge and management; outreach and advocacy; departmental administration and management.
This position is a member of the library’s leadership teams that assists the library administration in drafting and implementing services that fulfill the library’s strategic plan in order to meet community needs.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Leads the children’s team including scheduling, training, mentoring, and evaluating staff and overseeing volunteers.
- Coordinates youth service operations with other library services and functions, develops programs and services to meet specific needs of children and young adults.
- Plans, designs, promotes, and delivers a robust calendar of youth programs, including early literacy activities, STEAM workshops, school-age programs, and summer reading initiatives. Supervises programming by junior staff members
- Provides reference and reader’s advisory services to children, parents and teachers.
- Supervises the storytime librarian and assist them when needed
- Assists in promoting library use, especially programs and services for children and young adults.
- Selects children’s materials for library acquisition; Selects, evaluates, maintains, and deaccessions children’s materials in all formats, balancing community demand, diversity, high-quality literature, and budget constraints; catalogs children’s materials.
- Attends and participates in regular leadership team meetings.
- Assists in drafting youth services service policy, as assigned.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with local schools, early childhood centers, homeschool networks, youth-serving organizations, and municipal partners.
- Coordinates or participates in outreach events, classroom visits, community fairs, and literacy initiatives.
- Represents the library at professional meetings, committees, and statewide programs when appropriate.
- Substitutes at service desks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of child development, early literacy frameworks, and best practices for public library youth services.
- Knowledge of children’s literature, trends, and popular culture.
- Skill in designing high-interest, inclusive, and educational programs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and to promote equity and inclusion.
- Ability to supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff.
- Proficiency with library digital tools, online resources, downloadable media, and integrated library systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Library Science.
- Competence in computer skills and willingness to learn new applications.
- At least three years of experience working with children in a library, educational, or youth development setting.
- Experience designing and presenting programs for youth strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and problem solving secured through retail, library, or other public service experience.
- Good work ethic: punctuality in reporting for work, organizational skills, thoroughness in work completion, attention to detail.
- Ability to work well with the public and collaboratively with colleagues.
- Usual office working conditions. Potential minimal exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather, temperature fluctuations.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and talk for potentially long periods of time. This includes using a computer monitor, monitor(s), keyboard, and mouse to complete many of the daily tasks as well as usual office equipment.

ADULT PROGRAMMING & OUTREACH COORDINATOR

TYPE OF WORK
The Rogers Free Library is seeking a creative, entrepreneurial, forward-thinking, and community-focused professional to fill the position of Adult Programming and Outreach Coordinator. The successful candidate will have knowledge of professional library principles, practices, and services, as well as a broad background in marketing, public programming, and social media.
Individuals will be responsible for planning and executing programs for adults at the Rogers Free Library, including marketing and promotion of events and services. This position reports to the Assistant Library Director/Adult Services Coordinator.
EXAMPLES OF WORK

- Plans and implements a variety of library programs for the full demographic of adults.
- Networks with community partners and agencies to develop responsive programming.
- Collaborates with the Children’s Librarian and Teen Librarian to plan and implement Intergenerational programming.
- Works with colleagues to determine the scheduling of adult programs and to ensure programs are included in online calendars.
- Produces a monthly email newsletter/e-mail blast of library events using Mail Chimp as well as a print edition
- Promotes library programs in-house ( talking to patrons about programs, posting flyers in the elevator, on bulletin boards, etc.), online (library’s website, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), and at community events.
- Creates web and social media content to promote adult programs. Participates in any updates or potential re-design of the library website.
- Schedules, travels to and implements outreach programming to deliver and promote library services.
- Manages homebound delivery services to patrons. Enroll new patrons, manage delivery of materials and volunteer drivers.
- Gathers feedback and collects data from the community to evaluate outreach and programming effectiveness and recommend improvements or new initiatives.
- Maintains accurate records of outreach efforts, participant engagement, and program outcomes for assessment and reporting purposes.
- Attends and participates in regular leadership team meetings.
- Attends professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and actively participates in staff and department head meeting discussions.
- Substitutes a service desks as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Promoting library services through social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, newsletters, and the library website.
- How to plan and implement a variety of one-time and ongoing adult programs that appeal to our patrons, as well as tracking and maintaining the allocated budget.
- Library policies and procedures.
- Work independently.
- Handle a great many details, often simultaneously, with accuracy and composure.
- Communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members in a supportive team atmosphere.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s in either Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or Communications or Marketing.
- Three years as a professional or para-professional librarian preferred.
- Must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT
ROGERS FREE LIBRARY
BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND
Rogers Free Library seeks to fill one part-time position at various service desks. This position reports directly to the relevant service desk department head and will primarily serve patrons in the library.
The position is needed to fill hours for 22 hours per week.* Availability most evenings and one morning is required. Occasional Saturdays needed. The starting pay rate is $17.00 per hour.
This position will remain open until filled.
*Some additional hours may be available for fill-in coverage at any of the service desks when other staff are absent.
Tasks of position include:
- Complete circulation duties in the ILS system including checking materials in/out, registering patrons for cards, locating materials online and in the library; maintaining patron privacy.
- Assist patrons with using and accessing library services and resources.
- Assist in responding to calls for help with troubleshooting and solving hardware and software problems.
- Promote library resources and programs.
- Maintain the accuracy of items on the reserve and collection shelves.
- Serve at the circulation or reference desks during shifts.
- Set up book carts for Library Page to shelve materials efficiently.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required with advanced study (Associate’s degree or higher) desirable.
- Demonstrated “people” skills, both in person and over the phone, secured through retail, library, customer, or other public service experience. Previous library experience is desirable.
- Good work ethic including punctuality in reporting for work, organizational skills, thoroughness in work completion, attention to detail.
- Ability to learn new and emerging technologies
- Ability to understand and utilize IT best practices
- Ability to work well with the public and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Proficiency in computer skills and willingness to learn new applications.
