Saturday, July 23, 2022, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Citizen Science allows us all to actively participate in collecting scientific data on our natural world.  That data can then be used and interpreted by trained scientists (who value your contributions)! Would you like to learn how you can contribute to citizen science projects around the globe? The library is launching three new citizen science kits: Observing Pollinators, Exploring Biodiversity and Measuring Light in the Night Sky.  We will discuss how to use these kits, as well as the popular citizen science app, iNaturalist.  Then we will go out into the world and do a little exploring and data gathering! We’ll be joined by local naturalist and bird expert Colleen Donovan, as we walk the nearby bike path to make some nature observations. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your binoculars if you have them!

RSVP required. Please RSVP HERE.

Local beekeeper suited up and holding part of hiveA Year in the Hive
Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 6:30-7:30 pm

While many of us have an interest and understanding of the summer activities of honeybees, it can be easy to overlook the intricate dynamic that takes place in a bee colony throughout the year. Join us for an intimate look at the social structure, activities and challenges that play out within a hive across the four seasons and the role that a beekeeper plays in keeping the hive alive.

Jennifer Bristol has been a beekeeper since 2013. She is a member of the RI Beekeepers Association and tends her hives at High Hopes Farm in Bristol.
